Travel From Budapest Airport To Central / Downtown Budapest
Ferihegy Airport is 20km from the centre of Budapest, with a new direct rail service from Terminal 1 to the Western Railway Station In Budapest There are 60 trains on weekdays and 45 at weekends from the airport to the city center.
The ReptĂ©rbusz departs from a bus stop between the airports terminals and will take you to Kobanya metro station.which takes you into Budapest proper.This a difficult route to negotiate with heavy luggage. Centrum Minibusz provide from 5.30am – 9pm ; a direct bus service from outside the terminals to Central Budapest for about 800Ft. This Service departs every 30min, 5.30am–9pm; cost 800Ft.
The Airport Minibus service is slow and very expensive and the Airport Taxis will charge you 6-7,000Ft for a journey that other city based cabs charge 3-4000Ft. The Airport Tourist Office staff are happy to order the latter.

Public Transport in Budapest
Transport in Budapest is dependable and operated by The Budapest Public Transport Company (BKV ) who operate 3 metro lines buses, trams and trolleybuses.
Most services start around 5am and finish by 23.30. Tickets for all services have to be bought in advance and can be purchased from kiosks and metro stations. Single tickets cost 185HUF. In sets of ten they are 1,665HUFand in sets of twenty 3,145 HU.
You can also buy a day pass for 1,150HUF, a three day pass is 2,400 HUF. Weekly passes are 3,400HUF. 14 day and monthly passes are also available at 4,500HUF AND 6,900 respectively. The latter has to be accompanied by a ID card (120huf) which may purchased at the same time provided you have a passport size photo.
Before boarding the Metro you must validate your ticket in the orange machines in the station entrances. The metro stations offer you an alternative (slightly cheaper ticket) to those already mentioned. A three stop ticket costs 130HUF which is not transferable. There is a five stop ticket for 200HUF with one metro transfer, and a 300HUF ticket which is valid for one hour and one metro transfer. The latter is useful if you are going to the airport.
On Trams & Buses tickets must be validated in the machines on board. There are 3 night buses the 6E which has a similar route to trams 4 & 6. The 14E & 50E mirror the blue metro line.
Plain clothes inspectors operate on all services – especially tourist routes used for airport journeys. The fine for not having a validated ticket is 2,500HUF.
